As the holidays approach, many of us look forward to warmth, joy, and togetherness. But for countless survivors, this season can be anything but cheerful. Did you know? Abuse often increases during the holidays, and being home can mean fear, isolation and pain, instead of comfort.
For many survivors, financial insecurity is the largest barrier to escaping abuse and finding safety. 99% of our survivors have faced financial abuse, with abusers limiting access to money, jobs, or education, leaving survivors trapped in a cycle of dependency with no clear path to escape. The holidays can increase existing financial abuse.
Financial Abuse is Domestic Abuse.
At the Houston Area Women’s Center, we empower survivors to reclaim their independence through financial empowerment, counseling, safe housing, and FREE, life-saving resources.
Our Economic Empowerment Services —available in English and Spanish—offer survivors career training, financial coaching, and resources to regain independence at our Flagship campus and Survivor Empowerment Hubs across Houston.
We help survivors take control of their financial future, with access to career readiness training, financial coaching, and matched savings programs—empowering them to create a life of independence, safety, and dignity.
Every Call Matters
Every day at the Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC), we answer calls from individuals courageously escaping domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking. On average, our Crisis Response Center receives 120 calls daily—each one representing a life in crisis.
A mother, a child, a survivor ready to break free. With your help, we can be there to answer.
Your generosity provides a safe place to stay, counseling to heal, and resources to rebuild. Together, we’re creating a world where survivors don’t just survive—they thrive.
This Giving Tuesday and throughout the holiday season, your impact can change lives. Every dollar you give empowers survivors with the tools they need to rebuild their lives.
Thank You For Opening Your Heart
This holiday season, your generosity stands as a beacon of hope. Together, we can prevent domestic and sexual violence while supporting survivors in their journey to safety and healing. Your gift can mean the difference between life and death for someone seeking safety.
