This year, we celebrate our Deputy CEO, Sonia Corrales, and her 30 YEARS serving HAWC. Throughout her steadfast career, Sonia has taken on countless roles and has dedicated her life to the anti-violence movement. As an advocate to women and children escaping abuse, she has impacted countless lives, and as a leader, she has left an indelible impression of strength, compassion and resolve to our team.  Sonia is in involved in numerous committees, task forces and boards in which she addresses interpersonal violence at the local, state and national level, and she has developed and strengthened community partnerships to ensure coordinated support for survivors across systems. Furthermore, her deep knowledge and understanding of the work we do has allowed her to testify at the Texas legislature to help increase safety for survivors, as well as to maintain funding for family violence programs. Most recently, Sonia is spearheading efforts at HAWC, leading the formation of the Sexual Assault Response Team, or SART.

Sonia’s awareness and compassion in supporting clients and staff through the daily challenges of this work are inspiring, to say the least. We thank her for her many years of service to our organization, and to the survivors we serve.

Happy 30th Sonia!
