Sonia Corrales is the Deputy CEO for the Houston Area Women’s Center.
Sonia Corrales serves as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Houston Area Women’s Center. She has dedicated over 32 years to the field of domestic and sexual violence and brings 26 years of leadership experience. Specializing in anti-violence work, she is a respected thought leader and subject matter expert, serving on numerous local, state, and national boards and committees. These include roles as the presiding officer of the Harris County Sexual Assault Response Team, a member of the Houston Forensic Science Center, and the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault, as well as co-chairing the Texas Council on Family Violence Public Policy Committee. She is also involved with the Harris County Public Defender Board, Harris County Resources for Adults and Children, and the National Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Reporting Act Working Group (SAFER), among other organizations.
Her additional affiliations include the Houston Sexual Assault Kit Task Force, the Mayor’s Commission Against Gun Violence, the Harris County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, and the Health and Human Services Commission Task Force addressing the relationship between domestic violence and child abuse/neglect. She also serves on the Texas Teleforensic Remote Assistance Center (Tex-TRAC) and the UHD Advisory Board for the Master’s of Nonprofit Management.
Sonia is a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso and has participated in Leadership Houston Class XXVI, the American Leadership Forum-Criminal Justice Class 4, the Bank of America Neighborhood Excellence Leadership Program, Center for Houston’s Future, and Latinos for Education.
Her numerous accolades include being named the 2016 TAASA Advocate of the Year, receiving the 2018 Houston Business Journal Women Who Mean Business award, the 2019 Texans Campeón de La Comunidad, the 2021 Comcast Hispanic Hero Honoree, and the 2023 Influential Latina (Mariachi Festival).
