Chanica Brown is the Chief Program Officer for the Houston Area Women’s Center.


For nearly 20 years, Chanica Brown has served in the nonprofit realm, ensuring services and advocacy for children and families through work in domestic and immigrant/refugee foster care and adoption, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral health, shelter services for unaccompanied children and education for pregnant and parenting families. For 12 of these years, Chanica has enjoyed guiding dynamic, passionate teams as they’ve answered the call to help remove barriers to safety, self-sufficiency, and overall wellbeing of those they serve. She brings the spirit of servant, creative, solution-focused leadership to HAWC, where she provides strategic leadership to programs aimed to empower survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse and sex trafficking. Chanica has contributed to several national steering and planning committees benefiting children and families, she is a graduate of Sam Houston State University, and holds a graduate degree in Counselor Education from Texas Southern University.
