On Wednesday, March 25, 2025 the Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC) celebrated a historic milestone with the grand opening of phase one of One Safe Place Houston. Supporters, community leaders, and media partners gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating this groundbreaking 5.5-acre campus that will broaden and elevate our services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking.

We were honored to hear remarks from key community leaders, including Mayor John Whitmire, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, District Attorney Sean Teare, Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Commissioner Lesley Briones, Council Member Dr. Evans-Shabazz, Houston Police Department Chief Noe Diaz, and HAWC Board Member and survivor Atika Abdur Rahim.

One Safe Place Houston will be a safe haven for survivors and their children offering full wraparound services such as an Economic Empowerment Hub, a Behavioral Health and Wellbeing Center, a Children and Youth Learning and Enrichment Center, and much more.

That evening, HAWC hosted a celebratory dinner and program. Key partners, former HAWC leaders, and friends were given campus tours and enjoyed an evening of community and shared accomplishment.
