Camala Hedenschau is the Director of Human Resources for the Houston Area Women’s Center.


Camala Hedenschau is a people-centered HR Director and organizational leader with extensive experience in the nonprofit and social services sector. She brings a strong background in People & Culture strategy, employee relations, compliance, and organizational development, and is known for leading through clarity, empathy, and accountability while navigating complex workplace dynamics.

With a foundation as both an HR professional and educator, Camala has a deep passion for teaching, coaching, and developing leaders at all levels. She has designed and facilitated training on performance management, feedback, communication, and leadership effectiveness, helping managers strengthen skills while fostering trust, consistency, and psychological safety across teams.

Camala currently serves in a senior People & Culture leadership role at Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC), where she partners closely with executive leadership to support a mission-driven workforce. During her tenure, she has played a key role in strengthening HR infrastructure, and supporting organizational change.

She is deeply committed to creating workplaces where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to do meaningful work in service of the community.
