Often, survivors have to leave everything behind, and we need to get them comfortable, clean clothes quickly, whether from their homes or the hospital. We can only accept new items with the tags still attached and unexpired food. If you’d prefer to organize a DRIVE for these urgent items, please email email@example.com.
For questions please reach out to Sara Rehman, Development Coordinator, at 713-528-6798 Ext. 2229 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Because of limited staff and space resources, we do not have the ability to sort, store and clean and sanitize previously-worn clothing, used toys and other used donated items.
We also are unable to accept and process older computers, tablets, cell phones and other electronic devices.
For this reason, financial donations provide us with the best way to match and meet the ongoing – and often changing – needs of our clients.
There are also certain new items that we can accept at certain times of the year. For instance, during our annual Back To School Drive, we collect new school supplies and backpacks for our clients’ children, and during our annual Holiday Gift Express, we collect gift cards and new toys.
If you would like to host a fundraising event benefitting the Houston Area Women’s Center and use the Houston Area Women’s Center logo on your promotional materials, please visit our Community Partner Events page for guidelines and to fill out the Community Partner Event form.
We often have very specific or urgent needs that are met through community drives. These drives help us fulfill our need for items like diapers (especially larger sizes), bras and underwear, and regular-sized toiletries. If you are interested in organizing a drive to meet these types of needs, or have an idea for a drive you’d like to discuss with us, please contact the Development Department at 713-630-2211 or email@example.com.
By law, we cannot accept these items, but can accept monetary donations to fulfill the need for them.
We accept gently used electronics no more than 2 years old. Older electronic devices cannot be used and cost us money to have recycled.
We can only accept new toys in their original packaging. By law, we cannot accept used toys or stuffed animals.
There was a time, several years ago, when the Houston Area Women’s Center operated a resale shop. We no longer have that shop, nor do we have the capacity to process clothing donations. However, below are some local organizations that have the ability to collect donated clothing. These organizations also serve our clients:
