The Houston Area Women’s Center Young Leaders (HAWCYL) is a dynamic and energetic group of Houstonians in their 20s, 30s, and 40s committed to furthering the mission of the Houston Area Women’s Center. We are dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault, fundraising and providing volunteers to support the efforts of the Women’s Center. We seek to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for like-minded individuals of all genders and backgrounds to mingle and network with one another.

Our general meetings are open to anyone interested in joining Young Leaders. They are typically held at the Houston Area Women’s Center, 1010 Waugh Dr, Houston, TX 77019. We also hold social, advocacy and fundraising events.

Organization and Leadership Roles

HAWCYL is composed of general members and is organized/maintained by a Steering Committee of officers who contribute their time, resources and ideas to support and sustain the Young Leaders group. General meetings of the Young Leaders are held monthly and are open to members and anyone who is interested in membership. Officer elections are held annually, and there are plenty of opportunities for general members to join sub-committees or step up and lead events and other initiatives throughout the year.

Commitment Requirements

We ask members to contribute at least $50 to the agency. Volunteer hours are optional and include any and all activity in support of the Young Leaders or the Women’s Center, including attending our monthly meetings, planning or logistical support for events and any volunteering at or for the Center. Hours are tracked by our Volunteer Chair.
