Congratulations To Spring 2017 HAWC Shero, Concepcion Miranda!

During the Houston Area Women's Center All Staff Retreat this past Friday, our very first HAWC Hero/Shero Award was presented to our Violence Prevention Educator for the Hispanic and Latino Community, Concepcion Miranda.

Nominated by several of her fellow staff members, they had this to say of Concepcion's tireless efforts and positive energy:

Concepcion embodies the mission to end domestic and sexual violence and is always, always willing to share the HAWC mission and her deep knowledge in ways that communicate to her audiences – whether in community settings, department meetings, in the media, at a tabling event, or in one-to-one conversation. She displays this in her passion, her commitment to justice, her respectful, and empathetic treatment of all persons.

She demonstrates so much care and passion for her job and the cause. She is always a great source of knowledge and experience and she’s always willing to share and learn from others. She brings good energy when she walks into the room and is always pleasant and helpful.

She goes above and beyond to achieve success in her work performance by never saying ‘no’ to support the needs of the department AND the Agency overall. She is a tireless promoter of the cause to end domestic and sexual violence, sharing the HAWC message via media interviews and accepting tabling events.
She models for all of us how to be the best advocate we can possibly be – and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work with her and learn from her.

Thank you, Concepcion, for your dedication to fighting domestic and sexual violence in our communities!
