A message from our CEO Regarding Harvey

To our HAWC friends and family:

Thank you for the countless calls, emails and texts we have received in the midst of Harvey. We are grateful to report, our shelter staff and clients remained SAFE, and our non-residential facility did not sustain damage during the storm.  Our shelter staff was nothing short of phenomenal.  Kudos to their preparation and dedication, ensuring clients and their children continued to receive life-saving, life-changing services throughout the storm, as they do every day, 24-7.  We are also reassured and inspired by the courage and perseverance of our clients, who leave their homes with nothing in the wake of trauma and create new lives; we observe it every day, rain or shine.  The shelter remains open, and our hotlines are ready to take your calls.

Many of you have asked how to help. Please consider supporting our city’s relief efforts.  In anticipation of housing and counseling clients affected by the floods, we are also asking for gift cards from places like Kroger, Walmart and Target, as these clients begin to rebuild their lives from the devastation.  Lastly, we greatly appreciate your generous support for our work, which continued throughout the storm and will continue in this aftermath.  You can find a list of our ongoing needs here on our website at http://hawc.org/en/urgent-ongoing-needs/.

In the coming days, like everyone in our great city, we will begin the task of returning to our normal operations, and to the enormous task of rebuilding our community.  We will be working with our community partners to roll up our sleeves and assist, any way and anywhere we can.  We will get through this, together.  We are Houston.
