Leadership Campaign

Campaign Update After the Storm:

Our client population is very vulnerable, and we know they are at even greater risk after a natural disaster. It has been estimated that domestic violence hotline calls spiked by 50% after Hurricane Andrew and by 45% after Hurricane Katrina(University of Miami, Disaster and Community Crisis Center).

HAWC is committed to ensuring that ALL of our services continue to operate seamlessly, regardless of the additional demand brought on by Harvey. Hotline calls are increasing – and statistically, will continue to rise. Shelter and housing resources will remain stretched to capacity. We will continue to offer counseling and advocacy services as we watch the number of clients accessing these services swell in the wake of the storm. We will continue to provide information and crisis intervention services for those who have been displaced by the storm alongside our community partners at NRG and GRB.

We need our Leaders now more than ever! Our 2017 Leadership Campaign supports all of our programs and services, which have become even more critical than ever. Leadership Campaign supporters inspire our community to take a stand against domestic and sexual violence and also encourage others to give.

About the Leadership Campaign

The Houston Area Women’s Center Leadership Campaign raises awareness of domestic violence, as well as much-needed funds to provide services to survivors and their families. The campaign engages Houston’s top corporate, professional and civic leaders and culminates in a signature ad that runs during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. We are delighted to announce that Houston Texans Head Coach Bill O’Brien has stepped up to lend his voice and his support for a third year! As we enter our 19th year of this unique campaign, which started as a single column ad in the Houston Chronicle, we are so thankful to Coach O’Brien and to you, our leaders, for its continued success and growth. So this year, with your support, we are committed to magnifying the power of our statement against domestic violence by expanding our ad in the Houston Chronicle from two pages to three. This is a big leap, and we need your help to do it! By supporting our Leadership Campaign, you are not just supporting HAWC financially, which we greatly need and appreciate, you are also adding your name to an impressive list of Houston’s best calling for an end to domestic violence. Houston is a wonderful, giving and strong community—by making this commitment, TOGETHER we can end domestic violence!
